It is estimated that by 2025, the number of city-dwellers could reach 5 billion (two-thirds of the population in poor countries). The Philippine population is projected to rise to 148.3 million by 2050. As our population continues to grow, we would need 100 new cities by 2050. The challenges we are currently facing include climate change and the destruction of our ecosystems, among others. In this keynote presentation, Arch. Palafox will share global best practices and model cities that we can follow in creating our future cities. To accommodate such a huge number of people in the future and to manage other challenges, we need to adapt and learn from the design and planning mistakes of Metro Manila and re-plan, re-design, and renew our architecture, planning, and urban design well into the new world order. Ar. Felino “Jun” A. Palafox Jr., Architect-Urban Planner & Founder of Palafox Associates | Palafox Architecture Group Inc. |
9:45 - 10:10 AM | Keynote 2: Archipreneur: Nurturing Entrepreneurship in the Architecture Profession In today’s digital age and ever-evolving world, the architectural profession continues to re-invent itself. Innovation & digitalization has seen the emergence of new design and building technologies and the new methods of communicating with our clients. However, still a large majority of the architecture industry is still traditional, relying on client fees and confine themselves in the world of architecture. With the emergence of technology and the increased competitiveness, architects should not confine themselves within the world of architecture and develop their unique skill-sets and abilities toward more entrepreneurial ways. When is enough, enough? This keynote session will share insights on key fundamentals and strategies on how to become an Archipreneur. Arch. Gene Arthur T. Go, Senior Managing Partner, GSN+p Architecture Studio |

COVID has rapidly shifted our life patterns, raised uncertainty, and triggered feelings of unease about meaning, choice, and freedom. It has significantly changed the way we live, work, and play. This life-altering experience has led to new insight and demands that we change the way we design, build, and operate our buildings. This keynote presentation will share the PHILGBC’s Health and Well-being for Buildings Program, that aims to develop a design, construction, and operation framework and to assess and certify building projects for its ability to provide healthier spaces for people. Current building design standards need to be updated, thus, Architects, engineers, and other building professionals need to have a new framework that will ensure that they are delivering their duty of care responsive to the needs of the current and “future-proofed” to adhere to standards of care responsibly answering our emerging needs.
